The wedding eve
The wedding-eve party used to take place the day before the wedding. Today it is usually celebrated at least one week before the wedding.
The old custom of the bachelor’s evening probably dates back to pre-Christian times. Friends and family members smash earthenware and porcelain and drive away evil spirits. Glass must not be broken under any circumstances because this would mean misfortune. The shards are swept away by the fiancées together – thus the evil spirits are disposed of.
